I frequently struggle to decide what to wear, even as a stylist. I’m relying on my revolving door of holiday outfits this season since it takes a lot of invisible work to make my closet feel exciting and new (read: folders full of outfit inspiration that I’m continuously resorting to).

There are always many events throughout the holidays that you might not have planned for. A business holiday party, a last-minute happy hour, or a lavish dinner reservation with friends—the holiday season calls for a wide variety of ensembles that are all in a different genre. I’m choosing to use my folder of holiday ensembles as inspiration to style goods I already own in novel ways rather than purchasing carts of new items to get me through my December calendar.

I have an outfit that you can make to secure your place as the best-dressed person in the room, regardless of the events you have planned for this Christmas season.

Ten Holiday Outfits to Shine In This Season

1. Jeans and a Tweed Jacket

Before I saw this flawless styling, I had never felt the urge to add a tweed jacket to my collection. Although the jacket is quite feminine, wearing it with loose-fitting denim gives it a cool, subtle vibe instead of being overtly preppy.

2. Pants with Sequins

Without donning a good amount of sequins, no holiday season is complete. Whether it’s a blazer with sequin bottoms like the one above or a sequin top with regular jeans, my favorite way to outfit sequins is with contrasting pieces. Instead of being overly obvious for the holiday season, it lets the glittery elements read as cool.

3. Red with Red

Imagine my excitement when I spotted this look as motivation to double up by doing the same thing over another red sweater. I recently caused a bit of excitement by wearing a red cardigan draped over the shoulders of my trench coat, something I frequently do. Using the knitwear I already have in my closet, the tone-on-tone layering is asking to be worn this Christmas season. To achieve this look, I’ll tie my red cardigan diagonally over my torso instead of hanging it over my shoulders.

4. Vibrant Layers

The returning of layers is, without a doubt, the best aspect of cold-weather fashion. The mix of color, design, and texture elevates what could have been a simple pair of jeans and a polo. (Not to mention the accessories that make a statement.) The double-layered, neutral outerwear helps to ground the warm weather-leaning hue of green, which may be recreated as an unexpected holiday ensemble. Wearing bright colors for winter can be scary.

5. Jeans and a coat of fur

A basic crew neck and jeans serve as the foundation for this ensemble, but the details are what really elevate it for the holidays. Now is a better time than ever to add a fur coat to your closet because the faux-fur trend is making a comeback this season. I’m dying to copy this outfit’s carefree atmosphere, which includes an enormous bag and socks and heels.

6. Red and Leopard

Even though I only wore this ensemble last week, red and leopard are the color combo of the season that I can’t get enough of. With a dash of silver added? Speak less.

7. A Transparent Skirt

Believe me, you shouldn’t be alarmed by the terms “skirt” and “sheer.” The skirts I’m eyeing have short slips underneath to give the sheer effect a bit more coverage, but you could also go for a completely sheer skirt like the one in the above photo. What about wearing it with a bulky sweater on top? Holiday perfection juxtaposed.

8. Knee-high boots and a plaid skirt

Even though I don’t usually wear a lot of plaid, much less a plaid skirt, I’ve never saved an image as quickly as I did this one. Her winter white it-girl accessories, along with a fur-trimmed vest and knee-high boots, give the prairie-girl style a stylish twist.

9. Mary Janes with Red Socks

On paper, a maxi dress and trench coat make a straightforward combination, but when Mary Janes are worn with red stockings, the look is elevated. Almost any outfit can be made to feel holiday-ready with this little accent, which has a big impact.

10. Red Trousers and Sneakers

On paper, wearing a jacket and pants is business casual, but when you add a ball hat and sneakers, the look completely changes. Here, a splash of gold, some more texture, and several shades of the same shade lend interest to the neutral appearance. And let’s not overlook the most notable aspect of it all: the red sneakers.
